What We Work On
Rotating, hands-on stations with instructor feedback and a hotwash at the end. Typical reps include:
Forcible entry
Hose handling & water application
Ladders & rescue setup
Vehicle extrication (with donated vehicles)
Fire behavior & tactics blocks (e.g., basement fire considerations)
2024 Recap (from Longmont Times-Call coverage)
~75 firefighters from 40 departments across CO and into WY trained together despite cold, rainy weather.
The day “lets women focus, learn from each other, and build confidence.”
First year with local sponsorships—costs covered so participants could attend for free.
Goal set to scale up participation to 100 in future years.
“Knowing that you’re not the only one is nice. There are other people you can lean on and ask for advice.” — 2024 participant
Why It Matters
Representation, mentorship, and quality reps change careers. This day puts women front-and-center on the drill ground while strengthening the peer network that keeps people in the job.
Looking Ahead
Planning is underway for the next Skills Day. Agencies interested in sending participants, instructors, or support—reach out and we’ll share dates and details.
